Today I'm going to tell you about an awesome FREE resource where you can try out all of Google's LLMs (Large Language Models) without paying a single cent.
Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview? It's on there, and it's awesome!
If you haven't heard of this site yet, read on so I can tell you all about it.
I discovered Google AI Studio two or three months ago, but only really started using it a lot last month. All you need to get started is a Google account - no need to enter any payment info. Then, you start a new chat and pick from a wide selection of models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview. With a whopping 1 million token context window, it will surely become your new best friend.
I've been working extensively with the new Gemini - it's been a great partner for my current project (which I'll talk about in another post sometime soon!) and an impressive AI buddy overall. While I don't want to dive too deep here and make this a review of Gemini, I will say that it is definitely worth checking out.
What's great is that you can also save your chats and name them. It's easy to swap back and forth between different chats to pick up a project, a roleplay, or a regular chat. Changing models is also as easy as a click.
It's a really intuitive UI that I appreciate every time I use it.
That being said, what else can you get on AI Studio?
Well, there are other models like Gemini Flash and the Gemma 3 family that are also really good. They do have a cool image generation model and other goodies as well under "Generate Media" though I have not had the time to venture into this section.
(It's on my to-do list hopefully for this week!)
When I do, I'll definitely write a follow-up!
So if you're looking for an AI to help you with coding or even just a writing buddy, I definitely suggest checking out Google AI Studio.
However, you may be asking, 'Does Google use my data?' - and the answer is, if you're using a Free account, Yes.
From the source I just linked:
"Using the free tier of Google AI Studio means your data can be used by Google for model training and may be seen by human reviewers. There is a potential, though likely small, risk of this data being exposed later through model outputs or other means."
That's just something to be mindful of before you use it! Personally, for someone like me who is dirt poor, I don't really care that much. Either way, even if you can pay for a subscription, it's a nice place to do a test run before dropping money.
It's also super user-friendly, so a newbie could hop on and get started without going through a bunch of work with APIs and other potentially confusing things they may not be ready to dive into yet. Google AI Studio offers a seamless, plug-and-play experience.
If you end up checking it out, I hope you find it as cool as I do!
